You probably wouldn’t have given much thought to the environment when you had your tea or coffee this morning but as the following infographic shows, if everyone were to reduce the number of hot drinks they consume each day ever so slightly, the potential savings in greenhouse gas emissions are huge.
Focusing mainly on the UK since it was researched and created by a Brit, this graphic gives some quite incredible numbers, the first being one of the most notable – the British public drink some 165 million cups of tea a day – who said that stereotype was false? But, in all seriousness, that number multiplied by 365 days means a huge 4.5 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent is emitted each year from hot drinks alone.
It really makes you wonder what other small changes we could make which would, when taken collectively over millions of people, make a significant difference to greenhouse gas emissions. This requires some more investigation but for now, why not take a closer look at the graphic below.
